Laura’s Blog Update No. 3

Glasgow, Scotland. Finishing up a great book I found on a free shelf in a hotel: “My Family and Other Animals” by Gerald Durrell.  A sample passage: “The phosphorescence was particularly good that night. By plunging your hand into the water and dragging it along you could draw a wide-golden green ribbon of cold fire across the sea, and when you dived as you hit the surface it seemed as though you had plunged into a frosty furnace of glinting light.”
In other news…
* Met up with the band and our Scottish tour manager/soundman Tim last night. Already having to ask Tim to repeat himself since it seems sometimes we’re speaking different languages. He is very nice and has his wife’s name “RUTH” tattooed in old-timey letters across the his fingers of his left hand.
* Glucose levels still fine. Forearm is now a pin-pricked constellation. Craving orange juice, but it’s not ok to drink. Who put this basketball under my shirt? I can’t get to my socks.
* I love the way British people describe food they like as “beautiful” and “gorgeous.”

Was listening today to the podcast of BBC3’s Late Junction show, originally aired 14 January, and heard two of your tunes, Where are you driving and Little Deschutes. Lovely! I was delighted to hear show host Fiona Talkington say that you are from my home town of Portland, Oregon. Will try and catch your show in Oslo on 10 Feb. at Cafe Mono. Good luck!

I am happy you are doing well and British people do describe food very well =D.

    Take care =D

I love that Durrell book! I just finished reading Farley Mowat’s “Never Cry Wolf”–eqaully funny and poignant.

Just curious…Can Tucker add the baby to his list of production credits? Or at least Co-production?

    Laura,

Just got the new album through your site and can’t wait to see you in Madison, Wisconsin. I understand your nerves, I could never do what you do – and even if I could – never as well as you do it!

So, nerves . . . I’m working on a small Web show here in Madison called “The Third Dimension.” The idea is that I interview musicians, actors, authors about anything but their profession. Does that make sense? To let public people be “three dimensional.” Since there’s a lot more to you than your music, would you be willing to give me 30 minutes of time for an interview while you’re in Madison on February 20th? We could talk about pregnancy, moms (your mom or all moms,) food, reading, nature, essentially anything but music. And, you wouldn’t have to perform! :)

Please take care of yourself while you’re touring and pregnant. Yes, of course, I would say that even if you weren’t touring or weren’t pregnant, but as the daddy of a 21-month-old that was born in April (2008) I guess I’m nesting for you vicariously!

  9. Kathryn Says:

Yay new site and you are going to be in NYC! I am going.

I LOOOOOOOOVVVEEEEEE SALTBREAKERS. It is the best album I ever heard in my life. It is soo me!! I listen to it almost daily.
I hope I would get to hear some of those songs. Awww. You are so great.

Hi Laura! I drove up from Portsmouth on the South Coast in hideous rain and a spluttering old car to see you in Oxford the other night. And i’m so glad that I did. Wonderful show and was pleased to pick up a copy of July Flame (aswell as Cataldo’s Signal Flare) at the gig as well. I think its your best album yet (which is saying something) and wish you all the best successes with it and for your ‘bun in the oven’.
