Laura’s Blog Update No. 2
Greetings from rainy London. Well, I kind of bombed my first live TV performance in Paris the other night. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that my press officer Matthieu told me before I went on that up to a MILLION PEOPLE were watching! I was playing “I Can See Your Tracks” but I got so nervous half way through that I cut out the bridge all together and just sort of awkwardly strummed the last verse instead of doing the fingerpicking that usually supports the song. It was like I was playing with clubs instead of fingers.  Afterwards I felt embarrassed but Matthieu insisted that my singing sounded great and that I shouldn’t feel bad about it. Still, when I was outside waiting for a cab with my tail between my legs I wondered: how on God’s green earth will I learn to get a hold of my nerves for the next live TV show? Just then an older French gentleman from the audience came up to me and told me how beautiful he thought the song was. He was very genuine and of course that made me feel better. But honestly there are times when I feel so frustrated that I can’t calmly and confidently perform a song I’ve played hundreds of times…
Pregnancy update: glucose levels fine, calf cramp bothering me, baby kicking consistently…

Laura,
Your moving performance led me to your website. It was really great. Couldn’t have noticed any change you made, for sure, but the way you played and sung suited me real fine.
.
I shamefully confess I didn’t know your work before. But I saw your tracks, and I followed them (ok, that was easy
Kindest regards.

Hi Laura,
Ingrid and I(the “oldies” in Molly’s class) came to your show at the Artistery and w were just totally absorbed by and in your. We are just so proud that know (sort of) an actual live, real and famous star.

Hello!
Praise that you perform live. I´m going to try to get to the Lund gig in Sweden in February. If you thought it was cold in Paris, just you wait till you get here! We have the coldest winter for 20 years!! Listening to your sweet song makes me feel warm though.
Good luck! Pär

didn’t catch your performance. checking you out on deezer. Ican understand how you feel. I do a radio show ever week here in the s. of France recorded live and though I can’t see my audience, my voice is out there and I know when I flub and that’s one person too many in the know…but from what I can read here, you gave a great performance and I’m still on the air so we’re all going to be okay…
Best wishes to you!

I visited your site to buy the new album and discovered you are also pregnant and due in April. Congrats! I was experiencing calf cramps as well, and my midwife at OHSU instructed me to take Rolaids a few times a day and to do leg stretches throughout the day, and I haven’t had a cramp again (although my calves are still a bit sore).
I really admire that you are going on tour while pregnant. I went on tour to Japan and England with my husband during my first trimester and it was quite exhausting at times to travel while experiencing morning sickness.
Great to hear you started your own record label!

Laura,
It’s Russell again (you and Sprout and Jolie crashed w/ me in Salem, OR fall 2001 after that workshop at Willamette).
Congrats on the Baby!
I know I’ve always found in my (limited) gigging my skill level goes down a few notches from what it is just playing for myself or one friend, but it of course gets better with time. So maybe going from gig to uber-gig is the same deal.
Looking forward to your Chapel Hill show. I Imagine you won’t have much time and/or know people in town, but if you need someone to show you and the band around I’d be happy to. Also, if any band members need a place to crash I have a futon.
