Laura’s Blog Update No. 17

Minneapolis, MN. Driving across the frozen wastes yesterday I felt a strange satisfaction knowing I had a suitcase full of clean laundry and a fully charged phone and laptop.  Ah, simple accomplishments on the road!

Thanks to all who came out to our recent shows in St. Louis (Jim James paid us a surprise visit, we were nervous, what a sweetheart), Chicago, Madison, Rock Island and Minneapolis.

New Top Five “Ooher-Aaher” List: 1. Chicago 2. Arlington 3. Amsterdam 4. Boston 5. Minneapolis

In the home stretch now… I get to see my dear ol’ mom and pops in Colorado Springs tomorrow. We’re going to see Avatar and take a hike in the Garden of the Gods.

Fondly remembering the good old days when Oxford entered the “Ooher-Aaher” chart at number 1.

A group of us made our way down from Duluth (to join more friends from the Cities) to see the show at the Cedar in Minneapolis last night. It’s the second time we’ve seen Ms Veirs there. Great venue and ever greater music.

The new album is haunting and beautiful- love it. Thanks for making our musical world a better place and happy travels in the next couple of weeks!

Laura & company . . . we REALLY tried to ooh and ahh in Madison. Could we make you honorary citizens? It seemed to keep Jeff Tweedy and Wilco happy this week!

GREAT, GREAT show in Madison – I can’t believe you played a 99 capacity venue – an absolute thrill to see you and your band live. The show sounded great. I don’t know if you’re familiar with playedlastnight.com, but for those of us who love live concert recordings (and for independent artists who are looking for additional revenue streams) it is a terrific creation.

So far just Swell Season and Iron and Wine are participating, but the site makes live recordings of almost every show by these artists available for purchase within a few days of their concerts. I’m not a bootlegger, but great shows like yours in Madison are the kind of performances that tempt me. I would love to be able to buy a live recording of that show or another show from this tour. Check it out – playedlastnight.com – it’s an interesting concept that hopefully works for both fans and artists. It would be great to see your shows listed there some day.

Until that happens, we’ll keep looking for your shows and future releases and support your art with cold, hard cash! :)

    Be well and homeward bound!

I’m loving this entry’s set of photos; I have a series of pictures I took on one of my epic roadtrips a few years back that look almost exactly the same. It’s great the way that something so iconically recognizable turns into this weird abstract shape when you remove the context of the ground it stands on.

Great show in Atlanta Saturday before last, BTW.
